Hello Everyone,
It has been an exciting week here in Frisco. We are seeing a lot of great miracles, and feeling a bit more urgency in the work. It is incredible to think July is already halfway over. Time sure does fly by. This last week we had an appointment that fell through, so we decided to walk across the street to a neighborhood and begin knocking doors. We came to a point in the neighborhood where we had a choice to go left or right, but we felt we needed to go right. While knocking down a particular side of the street a woman opened her door and said she didnt have any time to visit or talk but we could come back the next day before 3:00 o'clock. We didnt think much of it since that happens quite a bit and people are generally not interested when they say that. The next day we had things to do, so we didnt have a chance to go back. Later in the week we got a phone call asking if we had stopped by a woman named Barbara. We thought back to our week and remembered the woman that had asked for us to come back. It turned out to be that Barbara has been inactive from the church most of her life and has had strong feelings against the church. We planned some time to go by with a priest age young man to visit with her, but we arrived at a bad time. We did however set up an appointment to meet with her this week. To our amazement she walked through the doors of the church on Sunday, so we welcomed her in and sat with her. The talks for sacrament were perfect for her situation and touched her. We then walked with her to gospel principles and had an amazing experience where she communicated her struggles. She felt the blessings of the Atonement and began to cry. Her knowledge of the church and the gospel is limited, but she knew that being at church was the right thing for her. It was amazing the hear from the ward leaders what has been done to help Barbara and know that Elder Christman and I had knocked into without any knowledge of who she was or what state of mind she was in contemplating whether or not to come to church. The last time she attended church was 25 years ago, so we were so grateful to see the faith and courage it took for her to walk into the church and share her feelings with us. The Atonement is real and is ever present in the lives of those who come with broken heart and a contrite spirit.
Last Monday, while playing basketball, a woman looking for help spotted the church and found an open door to talk to someone inside. Ivory heard us playing basketball and asked for some help. We expressed we didnt have the resources or ability to help with the needs she had but that we could get in contact with the bishop in the area in which she lived. She happened to live in our area, so we set up a time for us to visit with her and help her with her spiritual needs. While visiting with her, we found out about her struggles in life and her current situation. She has great faith in Christ and was open to learning more about our faith. We were so thankful to find someone new to teach, so it was great to have Elder Christman take lead of the Restoration. We had practiced extending a baptismal invitation in our companionship study that morning, so when it came time to extend the invitation, he knew what to say. It was powerful to see him extend the baptismal invitation for the first time and see how an investigator would respond. She expressed she would like to know more before the accepted that invitation, but now she knows why we are there. I am so thankful for the Lord's willingness to help us in every aspect of this work. There are so many people that are ready to hear the gospel. Sometimes we find them, and other times they find us. Either way, the Lord directs His servants to touch the lives of others and help them learn of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.
I know God lives and his Atonement is real. The sacrament is available for us each week to partake of and renew the covenants we made at baptism. I am thankful for the spirit and know we can be guided in every aspect of our lives. Thank you for your prayers and letters. I love you all.
